Flint's recall fever has broken
Genesee County Circuit Judge Geoffrey Neithercut cancelled an emergency hearing today on the challenge brought by the recall committee regarding the disqualification of petition signatures by the Genesee County Clerk and the City of Flint Clerk's office. The Recall committee is also alleging that their civil rights were violated by the clerks' offices. The attorney for the County and the City therefore made a motion that the case be taken out of the state court and sent to federal court. The deadline for getting issues on the November ballot is at 4pm today. This defeat for the recall committee effectively ends any chance that the issue will be on the November ballot. Recall Organizers Blasted in MIRS News Article
In an article today in Michigan Information and Research Service (MIRS) Mark Grebner from Practical Political Consulting had some harsh words for the organizers of the recall against Mayor Walling.
From the article
Grebner said the recall committee hired past associates of Detroit political consultant Sam RIDDLE, who's currently in jail after pleading to corruption charges. Grebner added that people were paid by the number of signatures they collected, even if they were bad.
"It's a very high standard that takes a lot of work and organization," he said. "When you hire sleazy people who normally make their living panhandling in the park, you're going to get a lot of signatures. You'll get the same people over and over again, people from out of town and people who used to be registered to vote once but aren't anymore."

Flint in the National Media
Flint is once again making national headlines. Today the New York Times printed a story about the Buick City site. The article discusses recent thefts of copper from the plants but also speculates on possible interest in redeveloping the site.
The people of Flint cannot afford to let people from outside our city control how Flint is presented to the rest of the world. Please read the article and post comments that reflect your thoughts on the Buick City site. What potential do you see there and how can Flint best capitalize on this asset within our city?
